Hier zijn enkele verzorgingstips om je te helpen deze prachtige tropische plant te onderhouden: Licht: Calathea geeft de voorkeur aan helder, indirect licht. Stel de plant niet bloot aan direct zonlicht, want dan kunnen de bladeren verschroeien. Plaats de plant bij een raam met een gordijn om het licht te filteren of in een goed verlichte ruimte zonder directe zon. Temperatuur: Calathea gedijt bij warme temperaturen tussen 18°C tot 27°C. Houd de plant uit de buurt van koude tocht of plotselinge temperatuurschommelingen, want deze kunnen stress veroorzaken bij de plant. Vochtigheid: Deze planten houden van een hoge luchtvochtigheid. Om een geschikte omgeving te creëren, kun je een luchtbevochtiger gebruiken, een bakje water bij de plant zetten of de bladeren regelmatig besproeien. Water geven: Houd de grond constant vochtig, maar niet doordrenkt. Laat de bovenste 2,5 cm van de grond opdrogen voordat je weer water geeft. Zorg voor een goede drainage om wortelrot te voorkomen. Gebruik water op kamertemperatuur om te voorkomen dat de plant schokken krijgt. Grond: Plant je Calathea in goed doorlatende en lichtzure grond. Een mix van veenmos, perliet en orchideeënbast werkt goed voor de juiste textuur en voedingsstoffen. Verpotten: Verpot je Calathea om de één tot twee jaar, bij voorkeur tijdens het groeiseizoen (lente of vroege zomer). Kies een iets grotere pot, maar maak hem niet te groot, want deze planten houden ervan om een beetje aan de wortels vast te zitten.
