Verzorging en onderhoud van Philadelphus (Boerenjasmijn)

Care and maintenance of Philadelphus (Mock Orange)

The Philadelphus, better known as the Mock Orange, is a beautiful and wonderfully scented shrub that fits perfectly in any garden. With its white, star-shaped flowers and sweet scent, this plant is a favorite among garden lovers. Mock Orange is not only loved for its beauty, but also for its ease of care.

Mock orange grows well in almost all types of soil, as long as the soil is well-drained. It prefers a position in full sun or light shade. The more sun the shrub gets, the richer the flowering will be. Make sure that the soil does not dry out, especially during dry periods. Regular watering is important, but do not overdo it; the plant does not like wet feet.

Pruning is essential to keep the farmer's jasmine healthy and to encourage full, rich flowering. Prune the shrub immediately after flowering in the summer. Remove old, woody branches and prune young shoots back to a few buds. This encourages the growth of new branches that will bear flowers the following year. For an older shrub, you can prune drastically to rejuvenate the plant.

Fertilization is usually not necessary, but you can add a little organic fertilizer or compost in early spring to help support growth. Mock Orange is hardy and can withstand cold winters, making it a reliable choice for gardens in temperate climates.
