With their beautiful flowers, peonies are a fantastic addition to any garden, adding an instant touch of elegance and colour whether planted in borders, flower beds or large pots.
One of the most popular ways to use peonies is in mixed borders. Combine them with other perennials such as salvia, delphinium or lady’s mantle to create a dynamic and varied whole. The large, showy flowers of the peony form a beautiful contrast with the finer textures of these plants. For a more romantic look, combine peonies with roses or lavender.
Peonies also work well as solitary plants. A well-established peony with dozens of flowers can become the focal point of the garden. Provide a nice background, such as a green hedge or a wall, to make the flowers stand out even more.
Do you have a small garden or a balcony? No problem! Peonies can also be grown in large pots. Make sure the pot is deep enough, because the roots of the peony need a lot of space. Place the pot in a sunny spot and water and feed regularly.
Finally, peonies are also perfect for cut flowers. Picking a few flowers for a bouquet will not harm the plant and will bring the beauty of the garden indoors. Combine them in a vase with ornamental grasses or other flowers for an elegant table decoration.
