Verzorging en onderhoud van de Pachira (Geldboom)

Care and maintenance of the Pachira (Money Tree)

The Pachira , better known as the Money Tree , is a popular houseplant because of its striking appearance and symbolism. With its thick trunk, often artfully braided, and its bright green leaves, it is a real eye-catcher in the home. But how do you ensure that this special plant stays in top shape? Here are the most important care tips.

Light and location

The Money Tree likes a lot of light, but avoid direct sunlight, as this can burn the leaves. Place the Pachira in a spot with bright, indirect light, for example near an east- or west-facing window. If the leaves turn yellow, this could be a sign of too much sunlight.

Watering

The Pachira is a tropical plant that is used to varying water conditions. Water it as soon as the top 2-3 centimeters of the soil feels dry. Overwatering can cause root rot, so make sure that excess water can drain well. In the winter, the plant needs less water.

Nutrition and fertilization

During the growing season, from spring to fall, you can fertilize the Pachira every four weeks with a liquid houseplant food. This helps the plant stay healthy and stimulates growth. In the winter, extra nutrition is not necessary.

Pruning and maintenance

The Pachira grows quickly and can become quite large. If you want to keep it compact, prune the tips of the leaves and stems. Remove dead or damaged leaves to keep the plant healthy and to conserve energy. The braided stem does not require any special maintenance, but make sure that it is not braided too tightly as the plant grows.

With the right care, your Money Tree will remain an elegant and healthy addition to your interior for years to come.
