Care and maintenance of the Dypsis (Areca Palm)
Share
The Dypsis , better known as the Areca Palm , is one of the most beloved houseplants because of its graceful leaves and air-purifying properties. This tropical beauty immediately adds a touch of green and tranquility to your interior. Here you will discover how to best care for the Areca Palm to keep it healthy and beautiful.
Light: bright but indirect sunlight
The Areca Palm grows best in a bright spot, but avoid direct sunlight, as this can burn the leaves. For example, place it near a window facing east or west, where it will receive bright, indirect light. If it is too light, the palm may grow slowly or turn yellow.
Watering: regularly but in moderation
The Areca Palm likes slightly moist soil, but it does not tolerate soggy roots. Water it when the top 2-3 centimeters of the soil feels dry. In the winter, when growth slows down, it needs less water. Preferably use filtered water or rainwater to prevent brown spots on the leaves.
Nutrition: Boost during the growing season
In spring and summer you can feed the Areca Palm monthly with liquid fertilizer for houseplants. This helps it to produce new leaves and stay healthy. In autumn and winter it does not need extra nutrition.
Humidity and temperature
As a tropical plant, the Areca Palm thrives in high humidity. Spray the leaves regularly with water, especially in dry winter months or when the humidity in the house is low. The ideal temperature is between 18 and 24 degrees Celsius. Avoid drafts and cold places, as this can damage the health of the plant.
With proper care, the Areca Palm can last for years and remain an impressive eye-catcher in your interior.
