Verzorging en onderhoud van de Anacampseros rufescens

Care and maintenance of the Anacampseros rufescens

The Anacampseros rufescens , also known as the “sun succulent” because of its colorful leaves, is a compact and graceful succulent that fits perfectly in rock gardens, pots or windowsills. With its purple-green leaves and delicate white or pink flowers, this succulent is not only beautiful to look at, but also easy to care for.

The Anacampseros rufescens thrives in bright, indirect sunlight. While it can tolerate direct sunlight, too much sun can damage the leaves. Place it indoors near an east- or south-facing window, or in the garden in a spot with filtered light. In sufficient light, the leaves will develop their characteristic purple hues, while in shade they will remain greener.

When it comes to watering, this plant is very frugal. Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings, as it is susceptible to root rot. In the summer, it may need watering about once every two weeks, while in the winter months, sporadic watering is sufficient. Use a well-draining soil, such as a mix of cactus soil and sand, to prevent water from pooling.

The Anacampseros rufescens does not require regular fertilization, but a little cactus fertilizer during the spring and summer can help encourage growth. This plant grows slowly and does not require pruning, but you can remove dead leaves to keep it tidy.

Although this succulent can withstand mild cold, it should be protected from temperatures below 5 °C. In colder climates, it is advisable to grow it in a pot that you can easily move indoors during the winter months.
