Verzorging en onderhoud van de Aloe arborescens

Care and maintenance of the Aloe arborescens

The Aloe arborescens , also known as the Cape aloe or tree aloe, is an impressive succulent that is not only popular for its unique appearance, but also for its medicinal properties. This plant is naturally accustomed to extreme conditions and therefore requires little care.

The Aloe arborescens thrives best in a sunny spot. Whether it is indoors on a sunny windowsill or outdoors in full sun: light is essential. Make sure it is sheltered from frost, because although it can tolerate some cold, prolonged frost is damaging. In a temperate climate it is perfectly suited as an eye-catcher in a Mediterranean garden or on a terrace.

When it comes to watering, the Aloe arborescens is extremely frugal. Only water when the soil is completely dry. In the winter, when the plant is dormant, it hardly needs any water. A well-draining soil is essential to prevent the roots from rotting. Preferably use cactus soil or a mixture of sand and regular potting soil.

The Aloe arborescens needs little fertilization. A light fertilization with a cactus or succulent food once a year in the spring is sufficient to stimulate growth. Pruning is usually not necessary, but if there are dry leaves at the base of the plant, you can easily remove them to keep it looking fresh.
